The Government of the Republic of Moldova wants to restructure its debt of 780 million US dollars to the Russian concern Gazprom in order to pay it for 10 years.<\/p>\n

The statement was made by the Moldovan Minister of Economy, Valeriu Triboi, on Friday, October 9th. According to him, the restructuring will ease the pressure upon the customers, that would have to pay this debt in the following three years.<\/p>\n

Triboi stressed out that the current debt of the “right bank of Nistru” to Gazprom is approximately 780 million US dollars. “Together with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, we have the possibility to delay the repayment for 10 years later. We began the negotiations with Moldovagaz and we are about to discuss with Gazprom”, told the Minister.<\/p>\n

The Minister also specified that the $6,1 billion debt is composed from Transnistria’s debt, and the Government will do its best to separate the debts, so that “the debt of the separatist region will remain on the left bank, and that from the right bank to the authorities from Chisinau”.<\/p>\n

At the same briefing, the Minister declared that Moldovagaz is now in the process of negotiations with Gazprom about the shipment of Russian natural gas to Moldova for 2016. The contract will be reportedly signed in November.<\/p>\n

Moldova’s dependence on the Russian natural gas is 99,9%, as it always has been. Beginning from March 2015, Moldova imported a million cubic meters (0,01%) from Romania, through the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline.
