The President of the Parliament of Moldova, Adrian Candu, had a meeting on Thursday, September 10th, with the representatives of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, who organized the mass-protests in Chisinau<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The protesters asked the authorities to resign, to set up another elections, to take immediate actions for restoring the lost billion from the banking system, for installing a correct justice system, capable to fight high-level corruption.<\/p>\n

As a response, the speaker of the Parliament announced that an European prosecutor with experience in the Romanian Anti-Corruption (DNA) will be employed to watch the activity of the General Prosecution Office and to solve some of the cases.\u00a0He didn’t mention prosecutor’s name, but he did stress that the prosecutor will be selected from the European Union.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Once on social networks it is wanted that DNA to pass the Prut river, so the first bird will come to Moldova next week”, told Candu, specifying that this step is a part of justice reform and anti-corruption fight.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Daniel Morar, the former chief of Romania’s DNA, is reportedly<\/a>\u00a0a candidate for this position.<\/p>\n

Besides this, Candu criticized the National Committee of Integrity, which is supposed to establish transparency towards public workers, and suggested that it would be turned off.<\/p>\n

One of the priorities said by Candu is the informational security, which is supposed to be solved by filtering the content and “promoting the national productions and the Romanian language”.\u00a0The speaker mentioned that, beginning from November 2nd, the a new will oblige the mass-media institutions to report their owners.<\/p>\n

Regarding the financial situation, Candu stated that “Moldova has too many banks” and that “it would be preferable to have less, but more healthy and bigger banks”.<\/p>\n

Moreover, he declared that he will send a letter of intention to the International Monetary Fund, to ask to evaluate the actions of the National Bank of Moldova during the period of huge thefts from the banking system.\u00a0<\/strong>Candu said that the Parliament will decide whether to fire the governor of the National Bank (guilty for inaction) or not.<\/p>\n

“I cannot do investigations. If you don’t have trust in me, then it should be done by the foreign institutions”, replied Candu to the civic representatives.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He gave other populist proposals to the protesters as: unique taxation for companies and physical persons, taxes for luxury, taxes for rich and very rich persons, \u00a0electronic services for economic agents, electronic activities for the Parliament and system of electing the judges publicly.<\/p>\n

Asked about preliminary elections, Candu rejected this possibility and told that it would led to another political crisis in Moldova, which will continue the economic crisis.<\/p>\n

Thus, the position stated by the speaker Candu suggests that the current oligarch-ruled Government will not give up on its principles of working.
