On August 15 \u2013 18, 2015, a series of three musical and literary performances “The first Romanian Language Festival in Canada and the United States,” will take place in Montreal, Ottawa, and New York City.<\/p>\n

Event’s dates:
\n– Montreal, Canada: Saturday, August 15, 2015 @ 3 PM \u2013 Cote-des-Neiges
\n– Ottawa, Canada: Sunday, August 16, 2015 @ 6 PM \u2013 Freiman Hall, University of Ottawa
\n– New York, USA: Tuesday, August 18, 2015 @ 7.30 PM – RCI-NY, Auditorium<\/span><\/p>\n

The great composer Eugen Doga will be among guests from the Republic of Moldova (Doga’s work had great success internationally – his famous \u201cWaltz\u201d was declared<\/a> part of the UNESCO heritage). Also, at the events will participate the well-known pan flute musician Vasile Iovu, the film producer and writer Lumini\u021ba Dumbr\u0103veanu, and the film director Teodor Gu\u021bu, all of them from Chi\u015fin\u0103u, capital of the Republic of Moldova. Ala M\u00eend\u00eecanu, the president of Communaute Moldave du Quebec and book author, will accompany the guests.<\/p>\n

The documentary about Eugen Doga’s life and work, created by the Flac\u0103ra Film Studious headed by Lumini\u021ba Dumbr\u0103veanu, was funded by the Moldova Foundation with the financial support of its individual donors (watch the film here<\/a>; more info about this project and how you can contribute, click here<\/a>). The film, along with Lumini\u021ba Dumbr\u0103veanu’s book about Eugen Doga, will be presented at the events.<\/p>\n

\nThese Romanian Language Festival events are sponsored by the Romanian Cultural Center in New York (RCI-NY) with the support of the Romanian Cultural Association from Montreal, Communaute Moldave du Quebec, and the Flac\u0103ra Film Studious from Chi\u0219inau, and are intended to both Romanian communities originated from Romania and Moldova and to the general public in Canada and the US.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Romanian Language Day is celebrated on August 31. It has its origin in 1989, when the Popular Front of Moldova organized a mass demonstration in Chi\u015fin\u0103u, known as the Great National Assembly (Marea Adunare Na\u021bional\u0103), which pressured the authorities of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (MSSR) to adopt a language law on August 31, 1989 that proclaimed the Moldovan language (identical with Romanian), written in the Latin script, to be the state language of the MSSR.
