The negotiations between the self-annointed “Pro-European” parties of Moldova ended on Tuesday, July 21, at midnight.<\/p>\n

The Liberal Democrat, Democrat and Liberal Parties, represented by Vlad Filat, Marian Lupu and Mihai Ghimpu respectively, announced right at midnight, between Tuesday and Wednesday, that a new Parliamentarian Pro-European majority was formed.<\/p>\n

The negotiations started in December 2014, after the parliamentary elections, but ended in a stalemate, with PDM and PLDM forming a short-lived minority government headed by Chiril Gaburici. After the latter’s resignation in June, the talks were officially resumed between the three parties.<\/p>\n

During the negotiations, the parties used even unorthodox tools to have their way. For example, two relatives of PLDM’s Vlad Filat were arrested for banking frauds by the National Anticorruption Center, controlled by the Democrat oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc.<\/p>\n

They agreed to offer the seat of Prime-Minister to the Liberal Democrats and the Speaker’s seat to the Democrats, while the President will be chosen “based on common understanding, according to the Liberals’ position”.<\/p>\n

All three parties evaluated the agreement as fair and equal for all of them.<\/p>\n

Basically, the new agreement states the same conditions and terms as in the previous alliances: the Alliance for European Integration 1 and the Alliance for European Integration 2.<\/p>\n

Even if the Liberal Ghimpu previously insisted that he wanted a General Prosecutor from the European Union, now the same Ghimpu says this position can be held by a Moldovan with an EU passport.<\/p>\n

The parties declared that the new Government will be voted until the end of July, “so it can solve country’s problems urgently”.<\/p>\n

New times, old alliances.<\/p>\n
