The local elections in Moldova took place in the second round on Sunday, June 28th, with a lower rate of presence (47,73% or 881 594 voters).<\/p>\n

This time, two leading candidates from the first round<\/a> were proposed for the mayorship in Chisinau, Ungheni, Nisporeni, Soroca, Ialoveni and other 452 towns and cities.<\/p>\n

The current Liberal and “Pro-European” mayor of the Moldovan capital, Dorin Chirtoaca, won the third mandate with a tight 53,54%, comparing to his Pro-Russian opponent, Zinaida Greceanii (46,46%), despite the multiple complaints about corruption and bad financial management in Chisinau.<\/p>\n

The elected mayors of Ungheni, Nisporeni, Ialoveni are Pro-European, comparing to the newly elected mayor of Soroca, that was accused by his opponent of aggression.<\/p>\n

Even if the Pro-European mayors and parties won most of the votes in the local election, the general opinion about Moldova’s so-called Pro-European Government is negative, due to several cases of high-level corruption and bad financial management of the country.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
