On the World No Tobacco Day, May 29th, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova voted several modification to the laws directed to tobacco control.<\/p>\n

The laws follow the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control by banning smoking in public places, by banning the tobacco advertisement and by using bigger warning labels.<\/p>\n

According to WHO<\/a>, each year, smoking causes 5600 deaths and the loss of more than 2000 workers in Republic of Moldova. Out of the total 690 000 smokers, 390 000 will die early, if no action is taken.<\/p>\n

The new law enforcement will probably lead to saving more than 40 000 lives each year.<\/p>\n

The law amendments had been approved despite the tobacco lobby done by Tutun-CTC, the biggest cigarette manufacturer, whose manager states that “the country only benefits from the cigarettes sale”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
