The Russian Federation intends to create an air bridge through its military aviation in order to connect with the break-away region of Moldova, Transnistria. The initiative follows Ukraine’s decision to ban the transit of Russian military troops to Transnistria.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made by Yuri Yakubov, the coordinator of General Inspectors Department of the Defense Ministry of Russia. He stressed that the air bridge will be built to supply the Russian army from Transnistria and the peace-keeping troops.<\/p>\n

“Now, when Ukraine denounced all the military agreements (with us), the Ministry of Defense has nothing but to transport the necessary supplies to these military units by using the military aviation”, stated Yakubov, quoted by Interfax<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Russian general pointed that “under any conditions, the Defense Ministry and the Major State will find solutions to supply the Russian troops, including the peace-keeping forces, with all the necessary things”.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Yakubov said the banning of the transit by the Ukraine would cause the escalation of the situation in the region.<\/p>\n

“Ukraine’s banning of the transit to Transnistria may be a cause to change the role of the peace-keeping forces or can stop it at all”, stated the Russian official.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Supreme Rada of Ukraine voted on May 21st the denouncement of five agreements of military agreements with Russia, including the one that allowed Russian transit to Transnistria.<\/p>\n
