“The European Union and the countries of the Eastern Partnership (Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus) are not ready now to discuss the problem of admission within the community”, declared Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission, at the EP Summit from Riga, on Thursday, May 21st.<\/p>\n

Juncker stressed that “the European prospective for any of these countries doesn’t exist”.<\/p>\n

“Neither they, nor we are not ready”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the same statement, he mentioned that the Summit is not dedicated to the European prospective of the Partnership countries and it is not directed against Russia.<\/p>\n

On the same day, the representatives from the civil society from Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia signed the Admission Demand to the European Union. They offered it to Johannes Hahn, the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations.<\/p>\n

The signing was actually symbolical and had the goal to show the intention of these countries to follow the European path and to be admitted within the European community.<\/p>\n

Johannes Hahn pointed out that the signing of the Association Agreement has become a real thing and he hopes the Admission Agreement will follow in the near future.<\/p>\n

As an encouragement, the European Commission launched a facility for the Small and Medium Enterprises from Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, that will provide 200 million euros in grants in the following 10 years.<\/p>\n

The funds will be mainly provided through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Bank for Investment.<\/p>\n

“The new facility will provide concrete support for firms from Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, helping them to benefit from the Association Agreements and to get to new markets”, stated Hahn.<\/p>\n
