On Thursday, May 21st, the Prime-Ministers of Moldova and Romania, Chiril Gaburici and Victor Ponta respectively, signed a memorandum regarding the energetic interconnection of the gas and electricity networks.<\/p>\n

The plan is to implement joint energetic projects worth of 750 million euros by 2018. 421 million euros would be spend on the territory of Moldova. The document includes projects of national importance: pipelines Ungheni-Chisinau and Onesti-Iasi, electric interconnections Isaccea-Vulcanesti-Chisinau, Iasi-Ungheni-Straseni and Suceava-Balti.<\/p>\n

The projects have the aim to provide diversity of sources of natural gas and electricity and to ensure energetic security. Therefore, there will be established a joint mechanism of cooperation between the two countries regarding the projects implementation and application for funds from the European Union.<\/p>\n

The biggest joint energetic project between Romania and Republic of Moldova is the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni, launched on August 27th 2014<\/a>. The cost of the project was 26 million euros, from which 7 million were offered by the EU. The pipeline of 43 km has the capacity of 1,5 billion cubic meter of gas. It worked for the first time<\/a> in March 2015, when the first package was shipped.<\/p>\n
