The Republic of Moldova is the Eastern Partnership’s first country to be granted a visa-free regime with the European Union. Exactly one year after the liberalization, on Monday, April 27th, Pirkka Tapiola, the chief of the EU Delegation, and Natalia Gherman, the Foreign Minister of Moldova, had a joint press conference regarding the statistics of this year.<\/p>\n

According to Natalia Gherman, half a million Moldovans entered the EU area (except the UK and Ireland) in the last year and the number of biometrical passports is continuing to increase.<\/p>\n

“More than 75,000 citizens from the separatist region of Transnistria applied and received the biometric passport, that offers them the opportunity to travel to the European area. The risk of immigration from Moldova is staying at a low level”, said Gherman.<\/p>\n

Pirrka Tapiola congratulated the Republic of Moldova with this anniversary, mentioning that EU will further support the freedom of travel for Moldovan citizens.<\/p>\n

The Border Police of Moldova announced that 460,154 citizens of Republic of Moldova, who own biometric passports, travelled to the European Union through Romania or through the Chisinau International Airport. Those who travelled the most are young people between 25 and 36 years old (124,041), being followed by persons of 46 and more years old (104,472). From the total number, 213,734 are women and 246,420 are men.<\/p>\n

According to the information held by the Border Police, 1355 Moldovan citizens were denied visa-free access to the EU for various reasons and other 2379 violated the residence regime in the Community area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
