Aaron Cook, the world ranked number one at Taekwondo, will represent Republic of Moldova after he switched from the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

According to BBC Sport<\/a>, the British Olympic Association (BOA) “reluctantly agreed to his request to switch nations”. The 24 years old sportsman was not overlooked for the Olympic Games in London 2012, though the being the highest rank in the category of 80 kg.<\/p>\n

“We are saddened by Aaron’s decision. Despite the fact that there is no legitimate case for nationality change here, the BOA cannot compel any athlete to represent the United Kingdom against his pr her will”, said BOA chairman, Bill Sweeney.<\/p>\n

Even if he represented Great Britain at Taekwondo, Cook insisted to and can switch nations, comparing to the footballers. Igor Iuzefovici, the chairman of Moldova’s Taekwondo federation, funded the Moldovan citizenship for Aaron Cook.<\/p>\n

Thus, Cook received his Moldovan passport and may compete at Rio Olympics in summer 2016.\u00a0His first fight for Moldova will take place at the World Championships in Chelyabinsk, Russia, in May 2015.<\/p>\n
