Despite the harsh weather, around 2000 people met on Sunday, March 29, in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau. They formed the Great Tricolor Assembly, celebrating 97 years since the unification of Basarabia and Romania and demanding the reunification once again.<\/p>\n

The representatives of the Unionist Platform “Actiunea 2012”,which organized the meeting, said that Moldova has the same chances to reunite with Romania as in 1918.<\/p>\n

The participants chanted messages like: “Romania, don’t forget, Basarabia is yours!”, “Unite!”, “United under the tricolor!”, “Long live Moldova, Transylvania and Wallachia!”.<\/p>\n

Further, the participants marched to the Embassies of Germany, France, USA and the EU and asked for support in the process of reintegration within Romania.<\/p>\n

“Yes, we can!”, “We have a dream!”, and “United States of Romania”, read the banners outside the US Embassy in Chisinau.<\/p>\n

“EU integration through Reunification”, “Wir sind ein Volk” and “Keep calm and unite” were the messages showed at the Embassies of the European Union, Germany and Great Britain.<\/p>\n

\u201dWe consider it is our interest that the Republic of Moldova should unite with Romania, given the risk of an military conflict in the region, and the Romanian state could bring the much-needed stability”, read the declaration sent to the foreign missions.<\/p>\n

The participants took an oath to the Tricolor and the National Anthem at the Embassy of Romania.<\/p>\n

“We want a cleansing at Chisinau. The arrests for corruption of many public persons in Romania, ministers, prim-ministers, managers, is an example that people in Moldova want to be implemented here”, declared Elena Podoleanu of “Actiunea 2012”.<\/p>\n

The representative of the movement “Tinerii Moldovei” (Youth of Moldova), Anatol Ursu, said that “the politicians don’t have a credible image in Moldova, so it is up to the civil society to ask for a solution: Unification with Romania”.<\/p>\n

The movement announced that it will continue the manifestations for Unification on May 16 and June 28.<\/p>\n

On March 27, 1918, the local Parliament – Sfatul Tarii, voted the unification of Basarabia with Romania. The province was again occupied by Russia on June 28, 1940, when USSR annexed the region after signing the Ribbentrop-Molotov agreement.<\/p>\n\n
