Former diplomat and Prime-Minister of Moldova, Iurie Leanca, presented on Monday, March 23, his recently assembled team and the program of his new party.<\/p>\n

The party<\/a> is called the European People’s Party of Moldova, despite the attempt of the Liberal Democrat Party to register EPP as its trademark before Leanca, a former Lib-Dem himself. The former PM has hit back at his former party and the Ministry of Justice, saying that “even the Communists didn’t treat PLDM like that when the latter was first registered”.<\/p>\n

Iurie Leanca declared that EPP would fill the gap in Moldova’s Pro-European right, a void left by the Liberal Democrats after they formed an alliance with the Communists and the Democrats.<\/p>\n

“PLDM abandoned without hesitation its original principles. The Liberal Democrats didn’t simply form an alliance with PCRM, but also borrowed some Communist techniques from them”<\/strong>, said Leanca.<\/p>\n

The politician warned that the new political configuration in Chisinau is seen with “disappointment and distrust” at Brussels, and\u00a0Moldova’s perspectives of integration in the EU disappeared from the speeches of European officials.<\/p>\n

The party’s best known members so far are Iulian Groza and Valeriu Chiveri, former Foreign Vice-Ministers, Eugen Carpov, former Deputy PM for Reintegration, political pundit Oazu Nantoi, \u00a0the director of the Association for Foreign Policy, Victor Chirila, former Minister of Culture, Ghenadie Ciobanu, former Minister of Youth and Sport, Octavian Tacu and former manager of the Diaspora Relations Bureau, Victor Lutenco.<\/p>\n

“I joined this party because I am tired of lies. I don’t accept that the European prospects of my country are degrading into a lie”<\/strong>, said Oazu Nantoi. He criticized the government for “abandoning the citizens from Transnistria” and described it as “odious coalition- a collective Yanukovici”.<\/p>\n

“I and my mates can’t be indifferent, we can’t remain technocrats, we can’t be unaffiliated”, echoed Eugen Carpov. The former Deputy PM for Reintegration promised that the European People’s Party of Moldova will be close to the citizens and not “a party with a millionaire leader and subordinated mass-media”.<\/p>\n
