Unionist Civic Platform \u201cAction 2012\u201d will hold on Sunday March 15 a protest in front of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanding the right of Romanian citizens to enter Moldova without a passport. There are expected about 500 participants at the protest.<\/p>\n

Representatives of Action 2012 emphasize that some associated countries of European Union as Serbia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Georgia, have granted the right to enter using ID card of all European citizens, including Romanian citizens, while Moldovan authorities still require a passport to enter the territory of this country. “Although we are bound by common past, language and civilization, it is more difficult for a Romanian citizen to move into his sister country, the Republic of Moldova than in other countries,” Michael Nicholas says, co-chairman of Action 2012.<\/p>\n

Contacted by Moldova.ORG, Anatol Ursu, a member of Civic Movement Youth of Moldova, said the protest was organized in Bucharest because of bilateral agreement but the request must come from Romanian authorities.<\/p>\n

Unionist Platform Action 2012 and Youth of Moldova have already lodged petitions to legalize access for EU in Moldova only with the obligation to present an alternative passport or identity card, both to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

Romanian citizens can travel only with an identity card in 58 countries or territories, so that the passport is almost useless for most people. Currently, most of the Romanians from right side of the Prut River call for the release exactly a passport to travel to Moldova.<\/p>\n
