Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici met with several representatives of embassies and missions of the country’s development partners: EU, USA, World Bank, UN, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, etc. They prepared a booklet with 29 recommendations and suggestions for the work of the new Government. In their speeches, the main thing that stood out is the necessity to combat corruption. “Otherwise, aid donation offered by us are a failed investment,” the German embassy said.<\/p>\n

The same thing was highlighted and US Ambassador James Pettit. According to him, corruption limits opportunities for citizens, supplies poverty and prevents reforms. The diplomat suggested to the prime minister and other ministers regularly to make public declarations addressed to both civil servants and ordinary citizens whereby to warn that “things cannot go on as before and corrupt practices will not be tolerated”.<\/p>\n

Ambassador of Sweden also repeated that although Moldova will still benefit from external assistance, it must correspond by implementing reforms. “Sweden will be near Moldova and we will provide all the support for reforms, but these reforms we need to fulfill our commitments towards the country and its citizens”, the ambassador said.<\/p>\n

Another highlighted\u00a0problem\u00a0at the meeting was overlapping competences and responsibilities the central and local authorities, ministries and national agencies, which slow application of the various public programs and reforms. Austrian Development Agency representative of Moldova talked about the necessity to improve the quality of human resources through education in the country and improvement of rural infrastructure, referring to roads and access to water.<\/p>\n
