The Romanian company Electrica SA could enter the energy market from the Republic of Moldova, as long as Chisinau have a pro-European government, Mediafax says. “Moldova is an attractive area for all Romanian companies conditioned of its political and economic path that we hope to be pro-European”, said director of the company Ioan Rosca at the ZF Power Summit. According to him, Electrica SA might participate in the privatization of three energy distribution companies in Moldova.<\/p>\n

The market of energy distribution in Moldova is attractive for Electrica SA because it offers a\u00a0higher rate on return than it is in Romania, especially after the Romanian authorities have reduced the regulated rate on return in November for electricity distributors from 8.52% to 7.45%. Electrica SA also was interested in buying the Italian group Enel stocks, which were announced for sale last year but Enel changed its mind in January, what could cause Electrica SA to refocus to the regional market.<\/p>\n

Even if Electrica SA comes to Moldova, it will handle only the distribution of electricity and not of producing it. “We are interested only in the distribution and supply leadership. Our focus is not on the production area”, said Ioan Rosca.<\/p>\n

Moldova.ORG recalls that Deputy Economics Minister Valeriu Triboi has announced recently that Red-Nord joint stock companies and Red Nord-West, where the state is a stokeholder, will be reorganized according to the European model. After the reorganization dismemberment, Red-Nord and Red Nord-West will turn into distribution companies, and as a provider of electricity will be created SA “Furnizare Nord”. If reorganization of state enterprises will be accompanied by their privatization would be that they are certain companies that will invest Electrica SA.<\/p>\n

The director Ioan Rosca has made an announcement at the same day that Romanian President Klaus Johannis met with Nicolae Timofti and discussed how many Romanian investments could come to Moldova.<\/p>\n

Electrica SA is controlled by the Romanian state through the Ministry of Energy.<\/p>\n
