On Friday, 6th February, 26 searches and auditions were done by the National Anti-Corruption Center and the General Prosecution of Moldova in the context of the defrauding of the “Banca de Economii” and “Banca Sociala” banks.<\/p>\n

According to the chief of the criminal investigation department of NAC, Bogdan Zumbreanu, the searches were done based on information about the nonperforming loans given by these two banks. “There are done several home searches at the suspects’ homes. We are searching for proof of bad use of the loans”, mentioned Zumbreanu, quoted by Publika. He said that the suspects are the economic agents that asked for loans, but especially the members of the Administrative Councils of the banks.<\/p>\n

According to NAC, the defrauded amount of money at Banca de Economii is 10,9 billion Moldovan lei and 17 billion lei, in the case of Banca Sociala.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zumbreanu mentioned that the main suspect is Ilan Shor, the businessman that ruled both banks in 2014 and was the President of the Administrative Council of Banca de Economii. The searches took place in his office (IPTEH Business Center), his car and his home.<\/p>\n

Beside him, there were audited Natalia Rahuba, the former President of Banca Sociala, Barca Viorel, the former President of Banca de Economii and Suholitca Leontyi, a member of the Administrative Council of Banca Sociala.<\/p>\n

After the interview, Ilan Shor declared that he was glad to offer “the information he was asked about”. “We were glad to offer the necessary information. It is very important for us that our banks to be saved. An objective investigation is needed. We will answer to the questions later”, said Shor.<\/p>\n

Ilan Shor and other suspects were declared as main suspects, even if they were freed.<\/p>\n

The NAC declared that none of them recognized their guilt.<\/p>\n
