The National Office of Statistics, the institution that organized the national census of population and houses, published the preliminary results of the poll done between 12 and 25 of May 2014 in Moldova.<\/p>\n

According to the press release, the population of Moldova decreased and is counted at 2,913,281 people, including 329,108, who work abroad. The urbanization of the country is at 34,2% (995,227), comparing to 65,8% (1,918,054) of rural population. Most of the people live in the North (31,5%) and the Center (30,5%) of Moldova.<\/p>\n

The study shows also that there are eight empty villages in the country and that about 215,112 (17,1%) houses of the total amount of 1,044,095 houses are not being used.<\/p>\n

The study gives the evidence that the total population of Moldova has decreased by around 400,000 people in the last 10 years, since 2004 (3,383,322).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The census doesn’t include the population living in the separatist region of Transnistria, where the authorities denied to be recognized as a part of Moldova’s society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
