”Republic of Moldova wants to apply for membership of the European Union in 2015”. This statement was made by Nicolae Timofti, the President of Moldova, during a press conference held on 17 of November, with the Austrian President, Heinz Fischer.<\/p>\n

”Entering the European Union will allow us to improve our policies of integration and cooperation, to upgrade the public service domain and to place Moldova in a space safe of threats”, said Timofti.<\/p>\n

He said that the ratification of the Association Agreement by EU ”gave our country a signal of encouragement and offered a perspective of entering the union”, concluded Timofti.<\/p>\n

The President of Austria, Heinz Fischer, mentioned that if Moldova asks the EU membership, the entire Union will study the demand and will answer to it, as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

”The first step was signing the Association Agreement, but now is the right time for applying as a full member of the European Union”, said Fischer.<\/p>\n

The Austrian President declared that Moldova’s neutrality is not going to be a barrier for applying because ”European Union is an alliance of economic cooperation, even if it proved to be a good guarantee of peace in the whole world”, added Fischer.<\/p>\n

The Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union was approved by the European Parliament on 13 of November. Still, all the European Parliaments have to approve and vote the Agreement until the end of 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
