The European Integration or closer relations with the Customs Union-this is the objective of the parlementary elections in Moldova stated by the delegation of the Council of Europe.<\/p>\n

The delegation noted that political parties have the right to conduct the campaign freely. The candidates have discussed on several topics with the voters: unemployment, pensions, health care system, education, but also administrative problems and vote buying. The representatives were informed about several involvements of religious people in favoring some political parties. They were also told by the authorities about the lack of transparency of the sources of financing of political parties, especially about the dirty money, coming from Russia. Furthermore, the delegation expressed its deep concern about the big role played by businessmen and olygarchs in the political life of Republic of Moldova, especially in the electoral campaign. In this context, the Council of Europe has proposed to adopt new laws of full financing the political parties and the electoral campaign.<\/p>\n

The reform should be conducted on the basis of common sense among parties and should be implemented well before the elections. The delegation regrets that the actual government didn’t adopt this recommendation.<\/p>\n

It was stated that the media coverage of elections has been improved in the last years, but the opacity of the financial sources of media holdings was appreciated as a bad sign of impartial and subjective news. In several cases, the news providers established a bad impact on public opinion by favoring someone’s interests.<\/p>\n

As the delegation said, The Central Electoral Commission acts in political debates and situations like implementing the electoral electronic register and opening 95 polling stations.<\/p>\n

During its visit, the delegation of the General Assembly of the Council of Europe had meetings with the President, the Prime-Minister, with the Speaker of the Parliament, with the leaders of several political parties and other points of reference of the Moldovan society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
