Pirkka Tapiola, the chief of the Delegation of the European Union in Republic of Moldova, stated that the representatives of the minorities should not be worried about the close approach to EU. The statement was made during the Moldovan European Integration Debate Forum, 2nd edition.<\/p>\n

The European official mentioned that the Gagauz’s \u00a0from the south of Moldova should not be afraid of European ideas because ”EU respects the ethnic minorities and offer them more autonomy”.<\/p>\n

”We must work more active in the regions. Now EU is thinking how to increase the capacity of assistance for Gagauzia and Taraclia, through unity funds, to keep the country united”, explained Tapiola.<\/p>\n

In the same context, Tapiola said that there is no economic blockade, which separatists from Transnistria are talking of in the last few months. He told that the numbers of exports of the region show that more than 2\/3 of its exports go to EU or the right bank of the Nistru river.<\/p>\n

”Soon a new mission from DG Trade of European Commission will visit Tiraspol to discuss the commercial benefits of the Free Trade Area Agreement for Transnistria. EU extended Transnistria’s autonomy preferences till the end of 2015. European Union is open to support the process of application of the Association Agreement standards in the separatist region. Thus, EU doesn’t mean blockade, but economic growth, new jobs, progress in fighting corruption, justice reform- there is more to do”, concluded Pirkka Tapiola.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
