The move comes despite the free trade within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).<\/p>\n<p>Denis Cenusa, expert at Chisinau-based think tank Expert-Group said in an <a href=\"http:\/\/expert-grup.org\/en\/comentarii\/item\/1000-taxe-zero-rusia\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>analysis<\/strong><\/a> that several hidden risks for Moldova and other states are likely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear that other CIS countries that intend or have already signed free trade agreements that are not approved by Russia will face a similar fate,\u201d Denis Cenusa said. \u201cMoldova\u2019s case should pose as a warning sign for other countries (in particular Ukraine).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, another issue arising here is that the CIS continues to weaken against the Customs Union.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike other provisions of the CIS Agreement (Article 8 and Article 9), where a disproportionate approach of rights between CIS countries in the Customs Union and those outside the Customs Union is obvious, in terms of applying protection or anti-dumping measures,\u201d the expert said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Russia\u2019s move is likely to coerce other members of the Customs Union (Belarus and Kazakhstan) to take similar measures against Moldova and other non-Customs Union members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost probably Russia will insist on the solidarity principle and the necessity to harmonize import tariffs\u2019 regime applied by CU countries,\u201d the analyst explained. \u201cNonetheless, some opposition may come from Belarus, who often opposed the multiplication of non-tariff restrictive measures initiated by Russia (Belarus waived the restrictions on wine from Moldova and potatoes from Ukraine, previously introduced by Moscow).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russia has banned multiple agricultural products from Moldova claiming \u201chealth concerns.\u201d Experts say, however, that Russia\u2019s actions are aimed at \u201cpunishing\u201d Moldova for its political and economic association with the European Union.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span>Russia is set to cancel the \u201czero duty\u201d for 19 products originating from Moldova starting from September this year.
