The U.S. Senate has adopted a resolution<\/strong> <\/a>in which it reaffirms its support for \u201cthe sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and the inviolability of its borders.\u201d<\/p>\n

The resolution was voted unanimously on July 23.<\/p>\n

The Senate calls on the Russian Government to refrain from using economic embargoes on Moldovan products following its political and economic association with the European Union (EU). The legislative body also demands a cessation of \u201csupport for separatist movements in the territory of the Republic of Moldova, and fulfill its commitments made at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) 1999 summit in Istanbul to withdraw its military forces and munitions from within the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Moldova.\u201d<\/p>\n

The same resolution says that Moldova has a sovereign right to decide its own partnerships without pressure or external coercion and affirms the country\u2019s right to have closer ties to the EU and other organizations.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Senate urges the EU to continue seeking better economic, political and social conditions in the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n
