Moldova\u2019s economic performance was among the strongest in the region during 2010 \u2013 2013, according to an assessment of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued by its Executive Board.<\/p>\n

The economic growth was made possible due to efficient macroeconomic stabilization measures and structural reforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Moldovan economy recovered strongly from the drought-related contraction of 2012, but activity will significantly slow in 2014 due to a moderation in agriculture production and related industries and weaker economic activity in main trading partners,\u201d IMF said in its First Post-Program Monitoring report.<\/p>\n

Inflation is likely to remain within the target range of 5% (\u00b1 1.5 percentage points) of the National Bank of Moldova. Although the external accounts improved in 2013, IMF foresees deterioration in 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current account deficit is projected to widen to about 7.5 percent of GDP resulting from a slowdown in export growth and a decline in remittances,\u201d the same source revealed.<\/p>\n

Due to severe governance issues in the banking sector, risks to systemic financial stability have increased, said the IMF.<\/p>\n
