Moldova is likely to apply for EU membership in five years from now. This is the estimation given by Moldovan Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the German newspaper BILD<\/a><\/strong>, Ms. Gherman said that EU accession is Moldova\u2019s next priority after it will sign the Association Agreement on June 27. She said it will take time until the country is prepared to seek membership.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe clearly understand that it is too early to talk about a [membership] application,\u201d the head of the Moldovan diplomacy told the BILD. \u201cBeforehand, a lot have to be done.\u201d<\/p>\n

She believes that the implementation of reforms necessary for the EU candidate status requires three to five years.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring this period we will deal very intensively with the implementation of pro-European reforms,\u201d Ms. Gherman said. \u201cOnly after, an application will follow.\u201d<\/p>\n
