Moldova is likely to introduce a 40% women-quota in decision-making structures of public representation. The Executive has approved a draft law that envisages amendments to existing Law on the Government and Law on adopting the Parliament regulation, Moldpres state news agency reported.<\/p>\n

Further amendments have been proposed for the Electoral Code and the Law on Political Parties, where at least 40% of candidates on the voting lists will have to be women.<\/p>\n

According to the source, the Press Law will also be modified. The Government seeks to make sure that sexist language is avoided in the Moldovan media outlets. Similar amendments will be made on the Law on Advertising. This will rule out the use of sexist advertisement.<\/p>\n

According to Labor, Social Protection and Family Minister Valentina Buliga, these draft laws were issued in accordance with the recommendations made by the UN Committee for Equality and the Council of Europe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese amendments and completions were approved so that women would not have barriers both in voting and decision-making,\u201d Ms. Buliga said.<\/p>\n
