Over 100 people out of 3,600 have gathered in downtown Dorotcaia village on Friday calling on mayor Andrei Lesco to switch from the Moldovan administration to the Russia-backed separatist administration of Transnistria, a breakaway region of Moldova.<\/p>\n

The people gathered upon request of Piotr Dobrinschii, the head of the so-called village soviet, a formal body unrecognized by the legitimate authorities of Moldova.<\/p>\n

According to Andrei Lesco, most of those who turned to the streets seek specific interests, such as \u2018Transnistrian\u2019 pension and \u2018Transnistrian citizenship\u2019 which eases the procedures to get the Russian citizenship.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir only wish is to have higher pensions,\u201d Mr. Lesco said. \u201cThose who get their pension from Chisinau have at least 800 lei (43 euro), while those who receive their money from Tiraspol (so-called capital of Transnistria) receive at least 1,500 lei (81 euro). The difference is striking. Teenagers want \u2018Transnistrian\u2019 passports to apply for Russian citizenship and work in Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n

The head of the Promo-LEX Association, Ion Manole said the event has been planned in advance, while the Chisinau-based authorities are not prepared to deal with these provocations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scenario was well prepared,\u201d Mr. Manole said. \u201cEarly in the morning several Transnistrian journalists, militia and the representative of Tiraspol and Russia from the Joint Control Commission were present.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that the inhabitants were informed earlier about this event and have been threatened that they will not get their pensions from Tiraspol next month should they not participate.<\/p>\n
