German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone talk on Sunday that Russia should not try to destabilize Moldova.<\/p>\n

According to Ms. Merkel\u2019s spokesperson Steffen Seibert, a special attention during their conversation was paid to the situation in the Republic of Moldova, the Chancellor\u2019s Office told Moldova.ORG.<\/p>\n

Angela Merkel warned Vladimir Putin that an attempt to destabilize Moldova \u201cis not allowed.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a press conference following the European Council in Brussels last Friday, German Chancellor said that Moldova will continue to have EU\u2019s support.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have stressed that we will not forget about Moldova and Georgia and they will continue to have our support and highest attention,\u201d Angela Merkel said. She added that following the current events in these two countries this support is of \u201cgreat importance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also NATO has expressed concern over the situation in Moldova. NATO\u2019s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Philip Breedlove said he is worried that the Russian troops deployed on Ukraine\u2019s Eastern border could seize Moldova\u2019s breakaway region of Transnistria if the decision was made to do that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is absolutely sufficient (Russian) force postured on the eastern border of Ukraine to run to Transnistria if the decision was made to do that and that is very worrisome,\u201d Philip Breedlove said, quoted by Reuters.<\/p>\n
