The latest developments in the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine could have a significant influence on the Transnistrian conflict resolution, the Moldovan experts say.<\/p>\n

Political analyst Oazu Nantoi told Moldova.ORG that more and more Ukrainians regret the 1990 decision of the Kiev-based government when the so-called Transnistrian republic was established.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Moldova tried to coerce the Tiraspol regime, Ukraine\u2019s position emerged,\u201d Oazu Nantoi said. \u201cUkraine has realized now that Putin\u2019s regime aims at annexing Crimea and taking control over the South-Eastern region of Ukraine with exit to the so-called Transnistria which is occupied by the Russian Federation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The expert pointed out that the incumbent government in Kiev is aware of the fact that the Russian military deployed on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is a threat to the national security of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will see to what extent the leadership of Moldova will be able to initiate a responsible partnership with Ukraine, especially after the leasing of Chisinau International Airport to a Russian company and the issues of the banking sector,\u201d Mr. Nantoi added.<\/p>\n

Former member of the Joint Control Commission, Ion Leahu said that Kiev-based government does not have time to change its official position with regard to the Transnistrian conflict. He argues that \u201cUkraine has citizens on the left bank of the Nistru River, while not long ago it sought to open a consulate in Tiraspol.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, if Ukraine would respect the international law with regard to trade and the status of this region, as well as the Moldova-Ukraine agreements, the Transnistrian leadership would be rather passive in generating issues.<\/p>\n

Analyst Bogdan Tirdea said that Ukraine might chance its position regarding Transnistria as the country neighboring the conflict is strongly dependent on European and American support.<\/p>\n

\u201cKiev will have to share a common agenda with the United States and the European Union,\u201d Bogdan Tirdea said.<\/p>\n

According to him, this strategy would marginalize Russia\u2019s role in the \u201c5+2\u201d format and would lead to the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the region and employ an international peacekeeping force.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
