Moldova will be able to travel visa-free to and throughout the Schengen zone in early May 2014 after the last vote to lift visa requirements was given on Friday by the Council of the European Union.<\/p>\n

The European Parliament gave its green light to the amendments to the regulation No 539\/2001 on 27 February 2014. According to the EU Council the visa-free regime should enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The regulation will be published in April.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the regulation is likely to be published during April, the visa liberalization should be effective in early May 2014,\u201d the EU Council said in a press release.<\/p>\n

The dialogue on visa liberalization with Moldova was launched in June 2010, establishing a Visa Liberalization Action Plan. Moldova becomes the first country of the Eastern Partnership to get visa liberalization with EU.<\/p>\n

EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmstr\u00f6m will visit Moldova on May 22. The date is likely to coincide with the day when Moldovans will enter visa-free in EU\u2019s Schengen zone.<\/p>\n

Moldovans will be able to travel within the Schengen zone for 90 days during a six-month-long period. The opportunity to travel visa-free does not provide the citizens of Moldova the opportunity to seek employment within the Schengen countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
