Moldova will benefit from the services provided by the Romanian emergency rescue service SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication). Moldovan Premier Iurie Leanca and his Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta signed an agreement on Friday that will allow medical rescue helicopters to fly from Iasi and Galati to any location in Moldova.<\/p>\n

The first SMURD centre in Moldova will be opened in the northern city of Balti.<\/p>\n

\u201cHelicopters from Iasi and Galati will intervene in any emergency situation beyond the border to rescue human lives,\u201d Premier Victor Ponta said. \u201cSMURD is a system which we are proud of, saving lives and Moldova needs a similar mechanism.\u201d<\/p>\n

SMURD Romania is reachable at the European emergency number 112. It is a mixture of medical rescuers and firefighters and intervenes in the most tragic accidents which involve well prepared doctors and rescuers.<\/p>\n
