Moldova\u2019s European agenda has shaped domestic reforms and enhanced relations with foreign partners. However, there are still many shortcomings in Moldovan politics that need to be addressed. The statements were made by Lilia Snegureac, the head of the Dialog-Pro Centre, in an exclusive interview<\/a>\u00a0in Romanian with Moldova.ORG.<\/p>\n

Dialog-Pro is a non-governmental organization set up in 2008. It pursues the goal of contributing plenary, among others, to promotion of the European priorities, democracy and human rights, as well as contributing to establishment of a sustainable dialogue at the local level between the civil society and authorities, participation in the process of civil society education and its positive and sustainable development; promotion of the intercultural, religious, ethnic, political and social dialogue.<\/p>\n

According to Ms. Snegureac, Moldova is committed to a large number of responsibilities in the framework of the Association Agreement with the European Union. The deal includes 395 directives and regulations which will bring Moldova\u2019s legislation in line with the European standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, the negotiations of accords with the Eastern Partnership countries do not offer membership,\u201d Ms. Snegureac said. \u201cWhile the association documents become broader, the European perspectives for countries in the East are based only on Article 49 of the Treaty on European Union, which refers to membership.\u201d<\/p>\n

The expert draws attention to the implementation of the Association Agreement once it is enforced. According to her, the economic deal with EU will apply within the internationally recognized boundaries of the Republic of Moldova. She pointed out that the separatist authorities of the Transnistrian region should also implement the agreement otherwise they risk being isolated.<\/p>\n

She explained that businesses from Transnistria will continue to pay customs duties of 10% for textile goods and over 17% for the rest of goods. These will be categorized as products of unknown origin.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe likelihood of such a scenario is very high given the reluctance of Transnistrian authorities to implement the EU legal framework, as well as their orientation towards Customs Union,\u201d Ms. Snegureac explained.<\/p>\n

Moldova is expected to sign the Association Agreement by the end of August this year. The accord will enhance Moldova\u2019s trade relations with the European Union member states.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
