NATO urged Moldova to continue the reform of defense and security sector. During a meeting with Moldovan Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman in Brussels on Monday, NATO Secretary General Fogh Rasmussen said the \u201cmodernization of Moldova\u2019s Military Academy, the efforts to strengthen transparency in the defense sector, as well as the destruction of pesticides and dangerous chemicals as concrete and beneficial results of the cooperation between NATO and Moldova.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NATO official highly appreciated Moldova\u2019s efforts to keep peace in the region, agreeing to deploy a team of soldiers to the NATO-led KFOR mission. Mr. Rasmussen said that such a move \u201cdemonstrates that Moldova wishes to be a security provider in the Euro-Atlantic area.\u201d<\/p>\n

He emphasized that NATO respects Moldova\u2019s constitutional neutrality and will continue to support the country\u2019s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
