He emphasized that Moldova is now engaged in a thorough project that is designed to bring his country closer to the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to have a modern democracy following the European model of political culture,\u201d Nicolae Timofti said at an ambassadorial reception he organized on Friday evening in Chisinau.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassadors of all diplomatic missions accredited in Moldova participated at the President\u2019s first reception of 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The head of state stressed that there are some institutional reforms currently going on at national level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecurity and national prosperity are closely linked to achieving the European integration goal. We want to have a powerful and administratively and economically coherent state. Democratic development, European integration and economic growth are core elements of our politics,\u201d said Mr. Timofti.<\/p>\n<p>During his speech, the President made comments on bilateral relations with specific countries. He emphasized that his government is interested in resuming the normal trade relations with Russia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still work to eliminate any barriers hindering our Moldovan-Russian trade, as well as to conclude complex negotiations in our energy cooperation,\u201d President Timofti said.<\/p>\n<p>The official stated that Moldova\u2019s relations with the United States have significantly improved in 2013. He pointed out that the visit to Chisinau of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, immediately after the Eastern Partnership Summit, shows the constant and important support of the USA for the democratization process in Moldova.<\/p>\n<p>Nicolae Timofti added that Moldova seeks to expand its diplomatic relations either further.
