British Minister for Europe David Lidington said in a joint interview with Adevarul <\/a>and Kommersant newspapers that Moldovan companies have to make sure that the price and quality standards of their products comply with the European consumers\u2019 demands in order to become competitive on the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis would mean compliance with phytosanitary measures which are required from all EU member states,\u201d Mr. Lidington said. \u201cMeeting these standards and improving quality of products, Moldova will be able to sell more worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n

The British official said that both Romanian and Bulgarian wines have encountered similar issues at the beginning. According to him, more British retailers are now selling their wines as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery state should generate qualitative products not only for EU accession purposes but also for global competition purposes,\u201d David Lidington said. \u201cIt is true that the EU standards pose a real challenge to Moldova but once you\u2019ll meet them, they will offer you great opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n
