Immigrants who will not respect the legal terms of stay on the territory of Russia will be severely sanctioned. The head of the Moldovan Diaspora in Russia, Alexandr Kalinin told the press that foreign citizens, including Moldovans, who exceed the limit of stay, will get a fine of $10,000 and will stay behind bars up to four years.<\/p>\n

The move is designed to cut down the number of illegal immigrants who work in Russia on the black market. Most of the immigrants in Russia originate from former Soviet republics, such as Moldova, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Armenia and others.<\/p>\n

Mr. Kalinin stressed that, according to the data provided by the Federal Migration Office, more than 550,000 nationals of Moldova reside on the territory of Russia, while 228,000 risk to be sanctioned for their illegal stay.<\/p>\n
