\nBy David Mccarthy \/\/ SERGHEI DADU cannot help making headlines in Scotland – if he isn’t sticking his head on to Alex Rae’s boot, he’s sticking the ball in the back of our net and getting Berti Vogts the heave-ho. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan’s role in the removal of the German should afford him honorary citizenship of this country but Dadu knows he will not be given a hero’s welcome at Hampden on Saturday. <\/p>\n

Not when Scotland have the serious business of resuscitating the World Cup bid Vogts left on a life-support machine after that dreadful October night in Chisinau. <\/p>\n

CSKA Moscow striker Dadu struck first in that ramshackle old stadium and, although Stevie Thompson equalised, the 1-1 draw was the final straw for the SFA, who binned Vogts before he could inflict any further damage. <\/p>\n

Dadu’s goal has made our qualification for Germany next summer a long shot and Walter Smith’s players must take six points from Moldova and Belarus in the next six days to have any chance of being invited to the party. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan attacker is not unaware of this – nor is he ignorant of his goal signalling the death knell of Vogts’ reign. <\/p>\n

He said: ‘I only found out later what the consequences of my goal were when I heard that Vogts had resigned. I understand the Scots didn’t know whether to love or hate me. <\/p>\n

‘But I never set out to bea hero or a villain. I am just a professional football player trying to do my job and fulfil my duties to my team.And that’s what I did in that game. <\/p>\n

‘Once I scored, our defence relaxed and we allowed them straight back into the match with the equaliser. If we had kept our concentration during that period,we could have held on to the lead and maybe built on it.’ <\/p>\n

Dadu, who would love to play in Scotland and is believed to be on the radar of Hearts’ Lithuanian owners, will be trying just as hard to make life as miserable for Smith on Saturday as he did for Vogts. <\/p>\n

He added: ‘We will go out there first and foremost to make sure we don’t lose. Second we’ll go out to put on a display our country will be proud of. And if we play to our potential we can win. If I play well, it may help me win a move.You can’t imagine how much I’d love to play in Britain. There’s no point in hiding it – that would be a dream for me. <\/p>\n

‘If there’s interest from Hearts,or from a club like Rangers or Celtic, that would be fantastic. I love the passion of the game in Scotland.’ <\/p>\n

There is a hint of a wry smile accompanying that last remark. After all, he found to his cost just how passionate the Scots can be. <\/p>\n

Dadu was the player kicked in the head by Alex Rae during Rangers’ Champions League qualifier with CSKA Moscow last season. The Ibrox midfielder was later banned for five games by UEFA following video evidence. <\/p>\n

‘Ah, yes – it’s hard to forget that incident,’he laughed. ‘But I don’t feel any ill will towards him at all.Why should I? <\/p>\n

‘I understand how he was feeling at the time. It was a big match with a lot depending on it and his team were losing. I’m sorry he’s not going to be playing on Saturday. I would have been happy to see him again on the pitch. Hopefully we’ll meet this weekend and if wedo, I’ll say hello to him. <\/p>\n

‘We know it won’t be easy in Glasgow. We know the Scots will give us a real battle. <\/p>\n

‘But I don’t see any problems for us on the physical side. All the players in our squad play in the top leagues in Romania, Ukraine and Russia.These are not soft leagues’ I hope I can score of course. But I am superstitious about things like this,so I’m not ready to make any predictions. <\/p>\n

‘All I want to say now is we have a strong team spirit and I have complete belief in our abilities.But let the match be the judge of how good we are.’ <\/p>\n

Dadu remains on the books at recently-crowned UEFA Cup winners CSKA but has spent the last five months farmed out on loan to Spartak Alania. <\/p>\n

He added: ‘As I understand it from my agents, there are various offers on the table but I don’t want to look at anything until after the next World Cup qualifiers. <\/p>\n

‘I could probably stay in Russia and there is a lot of money in Russian football now. <\/p>\n

‘But the most important thing right now for me is to be playing in a league where the football suits me. <\/p>\n

‘I watched the last Rangers v Celtic game on TV here. <\/p>\n
