Moldova was rewarded with the highest amount of money in 2013 from the European Union. The money was granted for projects aimed at enhancing economic opportunities in rural areas, advance reforms in the energy sector, improve job market management, offer vocational education and training and others.<\/p>\n

Moldova is the frontrunner, leading the ranking with 35 million Euro, followed by Georgia with 27 million Euro and Armenia with 25 million Euro.<\/p>\n

“This year three Eastern partners were rewarded for their efforts in democratic transition and their commitment to fundamental values,” Štefan Füle, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, said.<\/p>\n

“We hope that this group will grow bigger in the future. Additional funding means more support for national reforms and joint projects that bring concrete benefits to citizens’ lives.”<\/p>\n

The “Eastern Partnership integration and cooperation” (EaPIC) programme provided funding mainly to those countries which bolstered their democracy and showed a constant improvement of human rights.<\/p>\n

According to the European Commission, the funding will help enhance economy in rural areas of Moldova, which are underdeveloped in comparison to larger cities, including the capital Chisinau.<\/p>\n

The funding is granted based on “more for more” principle, which is not solely limited to financial assistance. The European Union develops closer political and economic ties with countries of the Eastern Partnership which show progress in terms of reforms.<\/p>\n
