After the EU-Moldova Association Agreement will be enforced, the Republic of Moldova will have the chance to protect some production sectors against some goods originating from the European Union. The Moldovan market can be gradually opened for the EU exporters during the next seven or ten years upon request, EU’s Agriculture Minister, Dacian Ciolos said in an interview<\/a> with Radio Free Europe\/Radio Liberty.<\/p>\n

“This free trade area agreement does not mean that the Republic of Moldova will be required to fully open its market for the agricultural products originating from the European Union,” Dacian Ciolos said. “We have negotiated the agreement in such a way that Moldova will be able to protect some sensible sectors, such as poultry production, eggs, dairy products and some fruits and vegetables.”<\/p>\n

Despite this transition period granted to Moldova, the European Union will basically open its market for Moldovan exporters entirely.<\/p>\n

Dacian Ciolos recommends further modernization of some key sectors, such as winemaking segment.<\/p>\n

The Agriculture Commissioner announced in September this year that the EU is likely to remove the import quotas of Moldovan wines before the Association Agreement will be enforced. That means the quality of wine needs to be further guaranteed.<\/p>\n

After his visit to Moldova last week, Mr. Ciolos observed a need for a better organization and management within the agriculture sector.<\/p>\n

“A better organization means modern consulting services, so that the beneficiaries are able to develop efficient projects,” Mr. Ciolos stressed. “It also means [the establishment] of efficient implementation agencies and a better government commitment in the fight against corruption.”<\/p>\n

The Republic of Moldova is expected to initial the Association Agreement with the EU in Vilnius in November this year. Some MEPs are hopeful that the Agreement will be signed and ratified in the first quarter of 2014. <\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
