Moldova ranks 89th in the Global Competitiveness Index 2013-2014 issued by the World Economic Forum.<\/p>\n

The report evaluates the competitiveness of 148 economies worldwide. It offers an insight into the driving forces of their productivity and prosperity. They define competitiveness as “the set of institutions, policies and factors that determine the level of productivity of a country.”<\/p>\n

The highest position was won by Switzerland. According to the report, the country’s performance is caused by innovation and labor market efficiency and a complex business sector, which is also among the best in the world.<\/p>\n

“Switzerland’s top-notch scientific research institutions, along with other factors, make the country a top innovator,” the report has revealed. “Productivity is further enhanced by a business sector that offers excellent on the-job-training opportunities, both citizens and private companies that are proactive at adapting the latest technologies and labor markets that balance employee protection with business efficiency.”<\/p>\n

Switzerland is followed by Singapore, Finland, Germany and the United States.<\/p>\n

Moldova’s Western neighbor, Romania, which is an EU member state, is on the 76th place, while Ukraine, the Eastern neighbor, was placed on the 84th position. Cambodia is ahead of Moldova by one position. However, Moldova enjoys a better place than Greece, which is an EU member state and was placed on the 91st position.<\/p>\n

When it comes to efficiency enhancers, Moldova ranks 102nd out of 148 economies. Moldova is placed on a lower position (133rd) for its innovation and sophistication factors.<\/p>\n

The same report assessed the countries based on the basic requirements for competitiveness, Moldova being placed on the 97th position.<\/p>\n
