Hungary is currently holding talks with its low-cost carrier Wizz Air to launch a direct flight between Budapest and Chisinau. According to Budapest Business Journal<\/a>, quoting a press release of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “an agreement on the professional issues involved with the direct flight is in sight, but financial preparations are underway and the two governments’ must still decide whether to participate in the launch with “financial compensation.”<\/p>\n

If Wizz Air will accept to launch a direct flight to Moldova, this will be the first foreign low-cost airline to provide aviation services in the country.<\/p>\n

A previous tandem between Moldova’s main carrier, Air Moldova and Romania’s low-cost, Blue Air has issued low-cost fares to Western European destinations. However, there is only a restricted amount of fares available at a lower cost.<\/p>\n

The low-cost airlines do not seem to be interested in flying to Moldova due to high airport fees and lack of infrastructure in other parts of the country.<\/p>\n

Moldova and the European Union signed in 2012 the Common Aviation Area Agreement.
