Sweden helps Moldova to get closer to the European standards by launching a joint project between the Swedish and Moldovan Statistics Bureaus.<\/p>\n

The project – launched on Monday (March 18) – is meant to offer assistance to the National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova by improving its planning and implementation systems and adjusting the statistical methodology to higher standards. Experts from Sweden will teach their Moldovan fellows how to improve the national accounts system, the trade-, business- and environment statistics.<\/p>\n

The financial support amounts over 2.5 million Euro for a period of four years.<\/p>\n

Swedish Ambassador to Moldova, Ingrid Tersman said that such a project is important amid advancing relations between Moldova and the European Union.<\/p>\n

“Moldova is moving toward a new stage in its relationship with the European Union,” Ms. Tersman said.<\/p>\n

“When the Association Agreement and the DCFTA are being implemented, it is crucial that Moldova can produce high-quality statistics. It is also crucial that the Moldovan statistics, be it on trade, business, GDP-growth, or any other area, follow EU-standards. This project will ensure that and thus speed up Moldova’s EU-integration process.”<\/p>\n

Lucia Spoiala, the Head of the Moldovan National Bureau of Statistics said that such assistance is helpful for Moldova when it comes to adjusting the national statistical system to the European standards.<\/p>\n

“We know our tasks and commitments under the European integration agenda and we thank Sweden for supporting us in our efforts to harmonize our statistical system to EU standards,” Lucia Spoiala said. “We are sure that the Swedish experience in this field significantly will assist us in achieving our goals.”<\/p>\n

Sweden is a significant contributor to the development projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova. The development cooperation between the two countries backs in 1996.<\/p>\n
