Russia can no longer impose restrictions on imports of goods from Moldova because the Free Trade Area Agreement between the Member States of the Community of Independent States (CIS) signed in 2011 in St. Petersburg and ratified by Moldovan Parliament on 27th September 2012, entered into force this year for Moldova.<\/p>\n

According to the Head of the Ministry of Economy’s Trade Policies Department, Inga Ionesii, the implementation of the agreement "will boost regional trade relations, will facilitate investments and exchange of technology between the signatory states".<\/p>\n

The new version of the Agreement on trade area within the CIS provides regional trade facilitation by improving trade relations between the signatory states, retention of duty zero to over 10 000 groups of goods, provides gradual elimination of taxes on products which are exempt from free trade regime, as well as and no new trade restrictions. Thanks to the new agreement the number of existing bilateral agreements regulating trade and economic relations with CIS countries is reduced. At the same time, the Agreement provides mechanisms for resolving trade disputes within the WTO platform and within the mechanisms and procedures agreed by the parties.<\/p>\n

The Agreement also provides for the continuation of export duties on natural gas, the raw material for heavy industry and wood from Russia. Sugar is an exception of the free trade regime with Ukraine.<\/p>\n
