Moldova’s Giurgiulesti International Free Port gets a loan of $12 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The money is designed to support the construction of a mixed gauge rail terminal.<\/p>\n

The financial assistance will be involved in improvement actions of the general standard of the port infrastructure. A major goal is to make trans-shipments easier to transfer, without needing internal transfer by truck and lifting by cranes. The development will make the operations more time and cost efficient for Moldovan enterprises.<\/p>\n

“Rehabilitation of the infrastructure in Moldova is an investment priority for the Bank,” said Sue Barrett, EBRD Director for Transport. “This project will help implement a major programme to support the ever increasing potential and demand for river and maritime trans-shipment services. The port already plays a big role in offering a tri-modal transport infrastructure, a low cost environment and a unique customs and tax regime due to its FEZ status.”<\/p>\n

The Port in Giurgiulesti is an important regional link to international roads and railways. It is located in the southern part of Moldova at the confluence of Danube and Prut River.<\/p>\n
