Moldova receives $4 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to finance its energy efficiency projects. The money is lent to Moldova’s ProCredit Bank to help the households to get double-glazed windows, insulation, gas boilers, and solar water heaters to reduce the energy bills.<\/p>\n

EBRD’s Moldovan Residential Energy Efficiency Financing Facility (MoREEFF) provides 35 million Euro in loans to local banks for financing residential energy efficiency improvements. MoREEFF is the earliest mechanism in Moldova to address this unexploited area and increase public awareness among the wide range of stakeholders. <\/p>\n

“MoREEFF is supported by a grant of 5 million Euro provided by the European Union Neighborhood Investment Facility (EU NIF) and 2.3 million Euro from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) to be used for technical assistance and investment incentives for households,” EBRD news center reported in a press release.<\/p>\n

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has employed specialized consultants to support households and banks with technical advice for energy efficiency projects.<\/p>\n

“The EBRD is one of the main long-term fund providers for the banking sector of Moldova, and financing energy efficiency investments is viewed as the key priority whereby we can really make the difference for the business community and home owners,” said Henry Russell, Director, Financial Institutions at the EBRD.<\/p>\n

“Luckily, we have a number of strong and committed local partner banks, such as ProCredit Bank, which we trust will allow for the successful implementation of the project, leading to much lower energy bills for the population.”
