Foreign investors back away from Moldova after a recent conflict between Germany’s Draexlmaier Company based in Balti – Moldova’s second largest city – and the State Tax Service (FISC) of the country.<\/p>\n

The dissension began after FISC carried out controls at the enterprise during the last nine months. Moldovan State Tax Service claim 25 million lei (1.5 million Euro) discharges and fines from Draexlmaier after FISC found “very severe” law violations.<\/p>\n

Draexlmaier produces modern wiring harness systems, exclusive interiors and central electrical and electronic components, focusing on the premium automotive segment.<\/p>\n

Some officials have recently accused the FISC of overstepping its responsibilities. FISC has denied that saying they are in full compliance with the Moldovan law.<\/p>\n

“Regarding the recent allegations on FISC that it would put pressure upon some enterprises, we hereby want to inform that they are groundless,” the Moldovan State Tax Service said in a press release. “Most of the assertions recently stated are not linked to the overstepping of FISC responsibilities, but to some businessmen in the framework of the fiscal facilities they benefit and which assume exemption from accountability for law infringement.”<\/p>\n

Some 2,600 Moldovans currently work within the company located in Balti. The investor was expected to erect another project in Moldova, but due to recent pressure, they gave up the idea and might open the other branch in Romania. Over 2,000 new jobs were supposed to be generated once the new enterprise was about to be opened.<\/p>\n

EU Ambassador to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said on Monday that he is surprised by the difficulties the foreign investors experience in Moldova.<\/p>\n

“In other countries the investors enjoy facilities,” Dirk Schuebel said, quoted by Adevarul newspaper. “Some don’t even pay taxes for one or two years. I am surprised that companies which want to invest face such hinderances. I don’t understand. It would be nice such companies to enjoy the best conditions, so they would be interested to invest.
