Moldova’s postponement to implement the EU energy agreement in due time is not being seen with bad eyes in Brussels. In an interview with Radio Free Europe\/Radio Liberty (RFE\/RL), EU’s envoy to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said this decision is not abnormal. According to him, EU Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger and Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat always keep in touch to explain the latest developments related to the energy crisis in Moldova.<\/p>\n

“There is nothing abnormal a member state of the EU Energy Agreement to ask for a compromise from European Commission,” Dirk Schuebel said.<\/p>\n

The EU official in Moldova explains that the solution will be based on the proposal of a commission that will be presented to the Ministerial Council of the Energy Community.<\/p>\n

“We try to support the Republic of Moldova within the framework of negotiations with Russia and we are hopeful to find a solution as soon as possible,” Mr. Schuebel added.<\/p>\n

A press officer of the EU Energy Policy department told Moldova.ORG that discussions between sides are still on-going. However, they could not refer to an exact status of the current negotiation.<\/p>\n

“If such a request would have been officially launched, it would probably be discussed at the next Ministerial Council of the Energy Community which takes place on 18 December 2012,” the source said.<\/p>\n

Moldova is going to request the EU to extent the reform implementation period with four years. The country is currently expected to conclude their reforms and make adjustments in line with the EU regulations by 2016.
