Both Republic of Moldova and its breakaway region, Transnistria, will benefit from the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. But the EU wants guarantees that the country will ensure the implementation of the regulatory attribution.<\/p>\n

“Although we will have sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures, we will also have competition rules, as well as other provisions, which would have to be observed,” said Luc Devigne, Chief negotiator of the European Commission in an interview with Foreign Policy Association of Moldova and Friedrich Ebert Foundation.<\/p>\n

Mr. Devigne hopes that Transnistria will also be interested to benefit from the new rules which will be set within the trade agreement with the European Union.<\/p>\n

“It depends on the Republic of Moldova if the country will implement successfully or if it will not implement this regulation framework, so that later they can benefit from the expected results,” Luc Devigne said. “This message, I explained very clearly also in Tiraspol.”<\/p>\n

The Free Trade Agreement will bolster Moldova’s trade with the countries of the community block by replacing the autonomous preferential rates with more reasonable ones which are due to be negotiated in the near future.<\/p>\n

If the EU requirements will be successfully implemented by Moldova, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso promised to conclude the negotiations over the Association Agreement (which embeds the Free Trade Agreement) by September 2013.
