Moldova does not give up the Energy Agreement with the European Union. Speaker of the Parliament Marian Lupu said in Brussels on Monday that his country will try to negotiate strategies which will be accepted by the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n

"Moldova stays interested in cooperating with the Commonwealth of the Independent States," Marian Lupu said. "This platform is a good one, which offers many political, economic, commercial and humanitarian opportunities."<\/p>\n

Recent developments on negotiations with Russia over natural gas pitched Moldova in a difficult situation. The officials from Kremlin asked Moldova to give up any further negotiations on energy supplies with the European Union in exchange for a discount in prices on natural gas. It came as an ultimatum for Moldova amid an energy conflict between EU and Russia. European Commission suspects Gazprom of exclusionary behavior in terms of obstacles to supply diversification, barriers to network access and possible imposing excessive prices.<\/p>\n

EU Commisioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule said in a press release that if Moldova continues, as promised, to continue its active involvement in the EU-Moldova relations, the country will benefit a lot from the negotiations held so far.<\/p>\n

"We agreed to sustain this very active dynamic as well as the good spirit prevailing in our Association Agreement negotiations, which will bring Moldova significantly closer politically and economically to the EU," Commissioner Fule said. "I reassured Mr. Lupu that the EU shares the same vision of the reform priorities which are critical to ensuring the long-term prosperity and stability of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union will continue to support his country in its challenging reform efforts."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
