Moldova requested a 150 million Euro loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). Some 10.3 million Euro are going to Moldova’s capital of Chisinau, to upgrade the city’s urban infrastructure.<\/p>\n

EIB Vice-President Wilhelm Molterer said, during his visit to Moldova on Thursday, that his institution wants to further strengthen the relationship with the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

“The loan signed today is the second EIB loan to the Municipality of Chisinau following the successful completion of the Chisinau trolleybuses modernization project. We are delighted to continue the excellent relationship between the EIB and Chisinau by supporting the reconstruction of major streets in the city centre improving transport fluidity and safety,” Wilhelm Molterer said.<\/p>\n

Moldova is the biggest EIB fund beneficiary. The foreign official said that the European Union expects stability and progress in Moldova.<\/p>\n

“European Union wants stability and progress in the Republic of Moldova, while EIB fully supports this wish,” Mr. Molterer.<\/p>\n

According to the European Investment Bank, this is the tenth loan in Moldova which comes from EIB, bringing the institution’s lending commitment in the country to 282 million Euro. The EIB has offered so far funding for the development of Moldova’s transport, energy and municipal infrastructure. As well, the EIB credits lines to partner financial institutions in Moldova for supporting smaller projects usually implemented by small and medium-sized.
